Years ago, up to the year 1934 this breed was thought to be the same with the Cardigan. In the 1920 the breed was recognized as a separate and purebred. American Kennel Club recognized the breed together with the Cardigan the same year. The pembroke welsh corgi breeders will promote improving the health and body standard of these dogs.
