Welsh Corgi Breeders

Welsh Corgi Breeders have done a tremendous work on the breed’s genetic makeup, so today this is one of the purest breeds of dogs in the world. Until 1934, there was no distinction between Cardigan Welsh Corgi dogs and Pembroke Welsh dogs, and they were viewed as a single breed. These two dogs still look very similar, but they differ greatly in temperament.

The Cardigan Welsh Corgi dog is quite small, standing 10-13 inches high at the shoulder. The dog has large and upright ears, elongated head, deep and broad chest, strong limbs and long tail. The eyes are usually brown, and the degree of color should correspond to the coat color. Blue merle dogs can have blue eyes. These dogs have a medium-length double-coat, which occurs in brindle, sable, black, black and brindle, black and tan, blue merle and red. Welsh Corgi Breeders pay particular attention to the dog’s size, body formation and color.

Cardigan Welsh Corgi dogs are renowned herders. They also have outstanding excellent guarding abilities and can work as vermin controllers. Today, they show excellence in various disciplines, such as competitive obedience, agility, tracking, etc. Their herding instincts haven’t faded a trifle, as they often bite people on the heels in an effort to force them in what the dog thinks to be the right direction. Welsh Corgi Breeders continue to cultivate herding talents in their dogs, but they recommend their clients to teach their dogs not to “herd” people.

Cardigan Welsh Corgi dogs are very protective and therefore aloof with strangers. Besides, they are notoriously dog-aggressive. This means, they require constant training and socialization. This should be done at an early age, because undesirable behavior is harder to correct when a dog gets older. Cardigan Welsh Corgi dogs appreciate physical and mental stimulation, and they respond only to positive training. Responsible Welsh Corgi Breeders usually share information on how to properly raise and train these dogs with their potential clients, as they work incessantly for the benefit of the breed on a global scale. They do a lot of selective work when studying potential dog owners, and they do not sell puppies to those who they think will not be able to properly manage such a dog.

Cardigan Welsh Corgi dogs are relatively healthy, and they live 12-15 years. They have few health problems, although some lines can be affected with the PRA and glaucoma. They are also prone to excessive weight, so they must be fed properly. Welsh Corgi Breeders can control the breed’s health quite well, because the breed is quite rare and hence it is relatively secure against unethical breeding.
